Weathered hornblende-biotite granodiorite

Detailed Decription

Pleochroic green-brown hornblende, platy brown biotite and opaques in close association with anhedral titanite. Turbid brown patches of sericite-clay-replaced plagioclase and orthoclase, and cleaner anhedral quartz grains are also visible. subhedral hornblende (with dull interference colours, left) in close association with platy biotite (right), minor opaques and anhedral titanite (grains appear both beige in colour and with bright interference colour due to very high birefringence). Sericite-clouded plagioclase and orthoclase is also visible. Titanite (under extinction, centred) showing multiple twinning and surrounded by subhedral hornblende (with dull interference colours and well defined cleavages in some grains) and sericite-clouded feldspar.
